Vegetarian food market growing, despite fewer vegetarians in the UK

The vegetarian food market has grown between 4-8% annually since 2002, despite numbers of vegetarians in the UK falling over the last eight years, according to a food industry research report.

A 'mature' food market supports this growth, it says, as many omnivores are eating vegetarian meals as well as meat-based ones. Government initiatives, meat industry scares, and consolidation in the industry are seen as drivers of this market.

Just-food, a global business information service for the food industry, has just released Vegetarian Foods 2007, which analyses the factors affecting the market over the last five years and offers forecasts up to 2011.

The report discusses consumer trends, analyses the chilled and frozen food markets and offers vegetarian food manufacturer profiles. A PEST (political, economical, social and technological) analysis is also performed.

It is available for purchase online from http://www.just-food.com.
